Football inspired crafts

Fall is in the air and that gets me excited about football season!  I am an Auburn alum so it's not difficult to say that I make Auburn crafts around this time of year.  Every year I am trying to celebrate my Auburn traditions by making a craft of some sort before the season starts.  Last year it was making "AU" shirts for the Brindley girls:  Sis, Mom, and me.

Mom's shirt

Sis and my shirt

So this year I decided to try my creative painting side and make 3 Auburn paintings (one for each of the Brindley girls).  Special thanks to Mom's neighbor, Brenda, for the hardwood floor samples.  I wouldn't have been able to make this project without her!  And I must say they turned out pretty cute especially for free-hand painting each one.  I call them Auburn Aubie Art.  Take a peek...

I think Mom and Sis are currently looking for ribbon in order to add a bow.  Updates to come....

The projects didn't end there.  Not only did I make 3 paintings, but I managed to find a set of navy placemats and turned them into this...

my homemade AU placemats
(Special thanks to my husband for buying me the plates.  I love him!)

Hold on, because the crafting isn't over just yet!  Mom even got in the spirit of crafting for football season and made me this for our front door...

My very own Auburn wreath.  I LOVE it!

Stay tuned for next year's Auburn craft.  Who even knows what that will be...  And maybe Sis will get in on the crafting action.  eh, or not.

I make edible crafts too

I am not a big "cooker" or "baker", but I have been known to make a mean baked potato.  I mostly use Kraft Foods for my recipes.  They are easy and don't require a butt load of ingredients.  There is nothing worse than wanting to make a quick, easy meal and having to get our 20 items.  Some of the best recipes require 6 ingredients or less.  Don't take my word for it.

A couple of years ago I ventured out into the world of desserts.  I can barely make a cake without messing it.  Just ask my sister who crunched into an egg shell by eating my very first cake to bake.  The sad part is that it was just a couple of years ago when this happened.  At any rate I was looking for a recipe with minimal ingredients and not eggs.  Problem solved!  Check out the Summer Berry Trifle recipe.  It is quick and easy and delicious.

My Summer Berry Trifle
It doesn't really resemble the recipe picture, but it was delicious.

Happy Making!

summer lovin' project

Summer is just around the corner and Memorial Day will be here before we know it.  We have made it part of our tradition to go to the beach as much as possible during the summer starting with Memorial Day weekend.

Last summer I decided that I needed to make a beach blanket for our many trips to the beach.  It's nice to sit in a chair, but sometimes you just need to lay down and take a nap in the sun (and wake up some odd minutes later to find you are officially friend.  ah the beach).  How in the world would I find cheap enough fabric to make a large beach blanket?  Then it hit me.  I have a ton of college T-shirts that are either A) too little, B) have armpit stains, C) both A and B.  So why not sew together my college shirts to make a beach blanket.  boo ya.  Problem solved.  So I gathered 20 T-shirts and started the process.

The 20 Auburn T-shirts I decided to use.

The next task was learning to sew in a straight line.  Not going to lie.  It wasn't the best straight line ever sewn, but they would have to do.

Close enough to straight

Row by row it slowly came together.  4 rows with 5 T-shirts in each row isn't an easy task and it's very time-consuming.

Row 1

Row 2
Honestly I can't even remember how many long hours long it took to complete this project.  It wasn't a speedy project especially with my novice sewing skills.  I think it turned out really cute though.  I have gotten so many compliments while being on the beach.

the final product!

Just to show you how big it is:  the size of our king bed.

Don't forget about the wreath sale and your free Hair Bloom when you place an order now until Mother's Day!

I'll fly away...

It just kinda happened on a whim-ish.  Sorta.

One of my co-workers told me a couple of months ago that he wanted to buy his wife a yarn wreath for her birthday.  He said she likes the color red, cardinals, and lighthouses.   ....and go!

I have been thinking about how to incorporate all 3 things, but it just wouldn't look right if I did a lighthouse with a red bird.  So I decided to ditch the lighthouse and focus on red and the cardinal.

I hope his wife enjoys it as much as I did in making it.  It really had a good time trying to think outside my box and venture to a different area with a yarn wreath.  And it didn't turn out too shabby.

it's a celebration with a discount

It's getting close...VERY CLOSE.

My birthday weekend is next weekend.  eek!  How old will I be?  Well, older than I feel I should be.  I still think of myself as a 17ish year old.  It's crazy to to think I am another year old.  Sadly once I hit 21, all birthday years have been not-so-thrilling.  I have enjoyed my celebrations though...just not the new number that I turn.

To kick off my birthday week through the birthday weekend (that's 10 days of celebrating!), I am doing a discount store-wide!  (Get excited people!)  You too can celebrate my wonderful, new number by getting a 27% discount in the LBT Store.  (And yes, I will be 27.  3 away from 30.  Not too thrilled about that at all.)

Don't forget that Easter is roughly 3 weeks away and your loved ones would love an ellebeeTee Originals gift.

I will post the discount code on the blog and facebook page on Thursday evening.

Happy Shopping!

and happy 27th birthday to me on April 8.  :)

the series continues: kitchen curtains

Another weekend and no new products for viewing.  It has been a bit hectic lately so there is a good excuse for not showing anything new today.  I have been in a "remodel the house" kind of mood though.  Weird.  So to honor that mood, the series (y'know the series that began with unique picture frame) continues with our homemade kitchen curtains!

When we bought our house in May 2009, I wasn't too excited about the bay (like) windows in the kitchen.  I have never really liked bay windows anyway.  They remind me of something straight up from the 80s.  And I am not a fan of fashion, trends, and ESPECIALLY music (unless it's country music) from the 80s.  I know, I am weird.  Here is what I was working with...

This was after we had painted it a guacamole green, which I LOVE!!!!  My husband wasn't too thrilled about it, but it sure does beat it being white which it was when we moved in.  How boring.  Plus we have navy blue countertops.  Again not my first choice, but they have grown on me.  They look great with my kitchen decor and colors (green, blue, orange, and yellow).  Now back to the curtains...

I knew that I wanted something different from the rest of the house when it came to window dressings for the kitchen.  The only window in the house that had blinds on it when purchased was the tiny window in the master bathroom.  We had bought blinds for 7 of the windows so blinds were out in the kitchen.  I wanted the kitchen to stand out and be different.  I was leaning more towards roman shades, because I wanted something to cover the entire window at night-time.  I get MAJORLY freaked out at night when the windows are open thinking that someone is looking in.  Creepy.

Do you know how much roman shades cost?!  Not to mention 3 custom roman shades?!  And do you know how much a cheap-o I am?!  A special thanks goes to my mom for giving the inspriation to make my very own kitchen curtains.  And voila!

My custom kitchen curtains.  I made all 3 for around $25!  Very thrifty.  Here's the breakdown:
-one bed spread of fabric from Urban Outfitters:  clearanced to $4.99
-3 spools of navy ribbon from Hobby Lobby:  $2.00 each (they were 50% off)
-Liquid Stitch from Hobby Lobby:  $2.50 (also 50% off)
-3 tension rods from Wal-Mart:   $3.97 each (11.91 total)
Grand Total:  $25.40 plus tax

I am not much of a sewer so it was MUCH easier to use Liquid Stitch instead of my sewing machine.  It wasn't until over a year later when I actually used the sewing machine to make our master bedroom curtains.

Enjoy!
